A video pipeline on AWS for $50 a month

S3, Lambda and MediaConvert, and the cost mistakes I made before getting it right.

The first month Streamline ran on AWS, the bill was $640 for a handful of film teams. Most of it came from settings I never chose on purpose.

The fix was mostly about defaults: transcoding only the renditions people actually watched, expiring old proxies, and switching idle workloads to on-demand jobs.

After tagging every resource, adding S3 lifecycle rules and moving thumbnails to Lambda, the whole pipeline now runs for around $50 a month.
